Ever have one of these moments? I bought beautiful wooden handles for my felting needles. I love them! When I wasn’t using them, I “stored” my needles in my Woolbuddy felting mat. You can see two needles in their wooden handles sticking out of a purple Woolbuddy in the upper left corner of the photo above. Worked great as long as I didn’t accidentally bump them. Bumping them too hard would snap the needle in half. I realized I needed a proper needle holder.
I searched for holders off and on for two weeks but couldn’t find a single one I liked. They were either too small, too busy, overpriced or looked like they’d tip over. I wanted something simple but sturdy. I was so frustrated that I actually said out loud, “I just need a bowl with some wool in it!”. And then I felt like slapping myself in the head. I have a white ceramic bowl I hardly ever use and plenty of wool.
I grabbed a glue gun and viola! It took me about 15 minutes to felt some wool into a ball, glue it to the bottom of the bowl and make a needle holder that works perfectly for needles in handles. I also love that it doesn’t take the focus away from the handles. Not just saying this because they are handmade, but these handles are treasures. Three different woods turned by a gentleman that has since passed. They deserve to be the center of attention. And now they are!
